Amazing how little money the owner's have put back into this fine establishment. All of these years, this tiny shack has been an LA landmark, not because of what it is, but because of what its not. People also keep coming back in droves because of what its not as well. If you're expecting burritos loaded down with rice, lettuce, sour cream, and other fillers, then this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for an authentic yucatecan style lunch that will addict you for life then this is your spot.


One of my favorites on the menu is the cochinita pibil. This pork is unlike any other flavor I've tasted in Mexican cuisine, and apparently is specific to the Yucatan peninsula. At least that's what they say. Regardless, this creation is available as a taco, burrito, or torta. I'm not a huge fan of the bread they use for the tortas, as it seems to be nothing more than a roll you could easily find at Ralph's or the Albertsons across the street. There is also a strong following for the hamburgers and hot dogs they sell. A favorite dish of a certain New Zealander is known as the trifecta. Carnitas taco, cheese dog, and hamburger. Don't try ordering the trifecta by name since it hasn't caught on yet but this pile of food will set you back about $4. Three tacos with various types of meat would be my recommendation for any newcomers. For some reason they seem to sell lots of lemonade there. Its minute maid and you can see them pooring it from the 64 ounce bottles in the back. I would recommend the liquor store next door, with its full selection of cold beverages. Alcoholic or not depending on the day and your mood. My favorite part of the menu is the snide liitle note they have there for the vegetarians... "We dont have any vegetarian items, not even the beans."
